Roanoke Rapids is strategically located on I-95 between major metropolitan markets in North Carolina and Virginia. Over 4,000 businesses and over 150,000 residents reside within the city’s 30 mile trade area. Roanoke Rapids debuted in Site Selection’s “micropolitan” list of the top small market economies in the US in 2004, tied as the 23rd ranked city. In 2006 it tied for 17th in the rankings.

The Carolina Crossroads Music & Entertainment District (www.carolinacrossroads.com) is developing into a major music and entertainment venue on the east coast. The Carolina Crossroads Music & Entertainment District is located at the intersection of I-95 and Exit 171 in Roanoke Rapids. When fully completed the district will accommodate a variety of restaurants, shopping, entertainment and hotels. Phase I represents 123 acres, and is anticipated to be completed by 2012. 1,000 additional acres are yet to be planned for development.
