welcome to ROANOKE RAPIDS

Ranked Among Top Micropolitans

Roanoke Rapids is strategically located on I-95 between major metropolitan markets in North Carolina and Virginia.  Over 4,000 businesses and over 150,000 residents reside within the city’s 30 mile trade area.  Roanoke Rapids debuted in Site Selection’s “micropolitan” list of the top small market economies in the US in 2004, tied as the 23rd ranked city.  In 2006 it tied for 17th in the rankings.

The Place to do Business
Roanoke Rapids has direct access to the eastern seaboard thanks to its location on I-95 about halfway between New York and Florida markets.  Its close access to major airports and ports is an added bonus.   An aggressive economic development and business environment,  supported by excess water and sewer capacity has made Roanoke Rapids become “the place to do business” in eastern North Carolina.   The city and county not only have aggressive incentive policies in place, but qualify for the highest level of state incentives available.

An Attractive Quality of Life
The quality of life in Roanoke Rapids matches that of major urban centers.  City residents have easy access to the best medical facilities and educational institutions in the country.   Roanoke Rapids sports over 16 first-class parks and recreational facilities, and the Roanoke Valley is an established and well-known hunting and fishing mecca.  A wealth of regional tourist attractions enhance the quality of life in the valley.  Roanoke Rapids has recently been designated as one of four cities in eastern NC as a “hub”  for attracting motor coach operators, travel writers and tourism planners.

A Major Venue for Entertainment
The Carolina Crossroads Music & Entertainment District (www.carolinacrossroads.com) is developing into a major music and entertainment venue on the east coast.   The Carolina Crossroads Music & Entertainment District is located at the intersection of I-95 and Exit 171 in Roanoke Rapids.  When fully completed the district will accommodate a variety of restaurants, shopping, entertainment and hotels.  Phase I represents 123 acres, and is anticipated to be completed by 2012.  1,000 additional acres are yet to be planned for development.

The Future Looks Bright
Roanoke Rapids will continue to thrive economically during the coming decade as evidenced by the opening of the Halifax-Northampton Regional Airport (IXA). A new 700 acre industrial park will open soon.   A bright future awaits the citizens and businesses who make Roanoke Rapids home.  Let us help you connect with us as you consider Roanoke Rapids for your next business venture.
